Programming an EMF lens adapter ring

If you had acquired the EMF ring as I recommended in this post you should program it before to starting taking photos. I explain you how to do it in some steps. Let’s go.

Step 1: Put the lens with the adapter on the camera body and turn on it.
Step 2: The exposure correction increment step has to be +1/3 EV.
Step 3: Select the manual mode in your camera (usually the M mode).
Step 4: Select the shutter speed at 1/60s.

Step 5. Now the camera is ready to start. Let’s open the programming mode.
Set the aperture value at f/64 and press the shutter button once.
Set the aperture value at f/57 and press the shutter button once.
Set the aperture value at f/64 and press the shutter button once.

If turning the dial of diaphragms you can get to f/1.0, is that the operation has done well and you are in the programing mode.

Step 6: Now you have to choose what you want program.
Maximum aperture: Set the aperture to f2.0 and press the shutter once
Focal length: Set the aperture to f2.2 and press the shutter once
Focus micro-adjustment: Set the aperture to f2.5 and press the shutter once

Once inside the specific programming mode is when you can enter the information. There are a conversion rule:
f/2.0 – 0
f/2,2 – 1
f/2.5 – 2
f/2.8 – 3
f/3.2 – 4
f/3.5 – 5
f/4.0 – 6
f/4.5 – 7
f/5.0 – 8
f/5.6 – 9

Step 7:  Setting information.
Maximum aperture: Turn the dial and set the aperture to the actual maximum aperture of your lens and press the shutter button. The maximum aperture will be registered in the ring. The ring accepts values ranging form f/1.1 to f45.

Focal lenght: The focal lenght can be set from 1mm to 65535mm. The ring needs five digits to store the focal lenght data, so you need to insert zeros in front of actual numbers. Each time you choose a number, press shutter button to enter.

Focus micro-adjustment: The chip accepts values from 0 to 31. This value is defined by two numbers. You have to insert zeros if the number is between zero and nine. Each time you choose a number, press shutter button to enter.

Step 8:  Store the information.
When you finsh entering all the parameters you have to close the program.
Set the aperture value at f/57 and press the shutter button once.
Set the aperture value at f/64 and press the shutter button once.
Set the aperture value at f/57 and press the shutter button once.

This is all. In the next post I’ll give an example about how to do it for an specific lens.
